       Peace Memorial Day

          和平紀念日

Peace Memorial Day is a national commemoration observed every 28 February
in Taiwan. It commemorates the 228 Incident or 228 Massacre in which
more than ten thousands of Taiwanese were killed while thousands others
were imprisoned on 28 February 1947. Formerly, the subject was taboo
to be discussed among Taiwanese people, but now, monuments are built
to honor the victims, and people commemorate the anniversary of
228 Incident as a public holiday in Taiwan.

The Origin of Peace Memorial Day

         和平紀念日的由來

It is believed that the background of Peace Memorial Day dates back
to 27 February 1947 when a woman who was peddling black market
cigarettes was caught, the woman shouted and yelled to the police officers
to show her protest, but then an agent shot her.

    和平紀念日的背景 追溯到1947年2月27日

       一個女人
兜售黑市香煙 被抓住了

   一個聚集人群
這位女人抗議大聲向警務人員

           但隨後警務槍殺了她

On the next day, people gathered outside the police station to express
their opposition of the incident. Feeling pressured by the act,
the officers fired upon the mass. The situation became worse
when groups of soldiers arrived from mainland China and started firing people at random.
Although there is no evidence, many people believe that about 10,000 until 30,000 people
were died at that time.

   第二天,人們聚集外派出所事件來表達他們的反對

         官感到壓力人群
射擊

    來自中國大陸士兵抵達情況變得更糟

雖然沒有證據,許多人認為當時約10,00030,000死亡

The date of 228 Incident was then acknowledged as a public holiday
while monuments were built and Taipei New Park was renamed with 228
Memorial Park as a commemoration of the incident.
