Taipei Story House has reconstructed a part of Taiwanese
confectionery history with Taiwan Story of Sweets.

Tortoise, fish, shrimp, lotus, pineapple and guava were the motifs
most often used because they symbolized longevity and prosperity.


    龜,蝦,荷花,菠蘿,番石榴是最常用的

         他們象徵長壽和繁榮。


  



Banana candies , mung bean cake  and malt biscuits  were among the early
pastries. It was not until much later that elaborate cakes were popularized.

Another highlight of the exhibition is a figurine of Zhuge Liang,
a famous military strategist during China’s Three Kingdoms period.
“Although he was known more as a statesman, he is widely recognized
by Taiwanese bakers as the inventor of Chinese pastries”.

Zhuge was said to have distributed a large amount of cakes to
soldiers and residents as a strategy to make sure Sun Quan would
keep his word and marry the sister of Liu Bei, Zhuge’s master.
