Typhoon Soulik has brought strong winds and torrential rain to the island.

      蘇力颱風給台灣海島帶來強風和暴雨。

This typhoon was the first to hit Taiwan this year.

          這是今年第一個颱風

It made landfall in Taiwan at around 03:00 on Saturday (19:00 GMT on Friday),
Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau reported.

   台灣的中央氣象局報告 蘇力颱風週六3點左右在台灣登陸

More than 8,500 people were evacuated from mountainous and other dangerous areas and thousands of soldiers were deployed.

Typhoon Soulik's strong winds caused one of the reactors at Taiwan's First Nuclear Power Plant to automatically shut down as part of precautionary measures.

Taipower said it had planned to submit a report regarding the incident to the Atomic Energy Council (AEC). the power plant is expected to be reconnected to the national power grid. It may take between 8 and 12 hours for activation at the earliest.
